The creative process of a performance, the profound bond between the author and the land that inspired him, and the show’s staging all converge in this documentary, structured as a “travel diary.” Director Marco Segato followed the development of Mar de Molada, the performance Marco Paolini brought to life in the autumn of 2024 through four itinerant stagings, from the Marmolada to the Adriatic Sea. As it recounts the geological and hydrological transformations in the Veneto region and the environmental challenges related to water conservation, the film reveals the urgency Paolini feels to raise awareness around the sustainable use of water resources. He does so by employing the means of which he is a master: civic theater. The dramaturgical construction of the performance is collective, from rehearsals with the choir to site visits and meetings with experts. The narrative unfolds on two levels: the story of the artistic process and the interweaving of memory, science, and ecological awareness. Theater and film merge, amplifying their power as tools of consciousness and action.

MarcoSegato

Born in Padua in 1973, he studied Documentary Filmmaking at the Civica Scuola di Cinema in Milan. He made Ci Resta il Nome (2007) with Mario Rigoni Stern and directed Il Sergente by Marco Paolini. In 2012, he directed L’Uomo che Amava il Cinema, which was presented at the Venice Film Festival. He collaborates with IUAV University of Venice, Euganea Film Festival, and Detour, the travel cinema festival. His 2016 film La Pelle dell'Orso was nominated for a David di Donatello in 2017.
